De Blackwing potloden vallen op het eerste gezicht vooral op door hun mooie design. Maar dat is zeker niet waar de Blackwing potloden alleen door bekend zijn. De Blackwing potloden zijn bekend door de kwaliteit van het grafiet en de inspiratie die ze door de jaren hebben gegeven. En die verpakking: Super mooi toch?! Is toch mooi meegenomen ;).

Heel wat legendarische Grammy, Emmy en Pulitzer en Academy Award winnaars hebben hun werk gecreerd met Blackwing potloden. Bijvoorbeeld Bugs Bunny van Looney Tunes is met een Blackwing potlood getekend. Ze worden al sinds 1930 gemaakt, maar de productie van de potloden stopte in 1998. Er was te weinig vraag naar de potloden en toen de machine ermee stopte, is de lijn stop gezet. Al snel betaalde fans op Ebay $40,-  voor één potlood. Palomino heeft het potlood geherintroduceerd zodat het weer verkrijgbaar werd. De 602 is de originele versie, maar er zijn ook wat andere soorten bij gekomen.

De Blackwing potloden
Alle potloden zijn gemaakt van Cederhout uit Californië, waardoor de potloden lang een fijne geur blijven houden. Het grafiet is, zacht maar ook donker en scherp. Het grafiet wordt in Japan gemaakt. Het grafiet is dus zachter dan normale potloden, maar de punt blijft wel fijn scherp bij het gebruiken. De Blackwings zijn langer dan normale potloden. Waar het goudkleurige kapje begint, stoppen de meeste potloden. Met een langer potlood kan je makkelijker zwierige lijnen maken. 

Verschil tussen de potloden:

Zwart potlood - Blackwing Regular
Het zwarte potlood is het zachtste en donkerste potlood van de drie. Dit was ook één van de potloden die opnieuw in de productie werd opgenomen. Dit potlood is vergelijkbaar met een 4B. Door zacht te drukken kan je redelijk lichte lijnen tekenen, maar ze laten een vrij donkere lijn achter. Dit potlood is het fijnste voor artwork. Het potlood kruimelt ook niet zo bij het gebruiken.

Grijs potlood -  Blackwing 602
Het grijze potlood is de hardste van het stel, en is vergelijkbaar met een 2B potlood. Dit potlood is ideaal om mee te schrijven, en komt het meeste overeen met het originele Blackwing potlood. 

Wit potlood - Blackwing Pearl
Het witte potlood is wat zachter dan het zwarte Regular potlood en is vergelijkbaar met een 3B potlood. Het is een iets lichter potlood maar nog steeds zacht en dit potlood blijft langer scherp dan het Regular. Dus wil je minder vaak slijpen maar wel een scherp potlood? Dan geef je waarschijnlijk de voorkeur aan Pearl. Door de balans van hardheid, is het een ideaal potlood voor zowel tekenen als schrijven.

Blackwing puntenslijper
Naast de bekende potloden heeft Blackwing ook een puntenslijper ontworpen die je eigenlijk niet los kan zien van de potloden. Met de slijper maar je razend scherpe punten op je potloden. Met slijper nummer 1 slijp je het hout en met nummer twee het grafiet. De puntenslijper is iets duurder dan gewone puntenslijpers, maar blijft heel lang scherp door de reserve mesjes die bij de slijper geleverd worden.

The Blackwing pencils are known for the quality of the graphite and the inspiration they have given over the years. And that packaging: Super beautiful, right ?! Still a bonus;).

Soon fans on Ebay paid $ 40 for one pencil. Palomino has reintroduced the pencil to make it available again. The 602 is the original version, but some other types have also been added.

The Blackwing pencils
All pencils are made from California cedar wood, which keeps the pencils with a pleasant fragrance for a long time. The graphite is soft, but also dark and sharp. The graphite is made in Japan, therefore it's softer than normal pencils, but the point remains nice and sharp when used. The Blackwings are longer than normal pencils. Most pencils stop where the gold-colored cap begins. With a longer pencil you can make elegant lines more easily.

Difference between the pencils:

Black pencil - Blackwing Regular
The black pencil is the softest and darkest of the three. This was also one of the pencils that was returned to production. This pencil is comparable to a 4B. By pressing softly you can draw fairly light lines, but by adding more pressure they leave a fairly dark line. This pencil is the best for artwork. The pencil also doesn't crumble when used.

Gray pencil - Blackwing 602
The gray pencil is the hardest of the bunch, and is comparable to a 2B pencil. This pencil is ideal for writing and is the closest to the original Blackwing pencil.

White pencil - Blackwing Pearl
The white pencil is a bit softer than the black Regular pencil and is comparable to a 3B pencil. It is a slightly lighter pencil but still soft and this pencil stays sharp longer than the Regular. So do you want to sharpen less often but want a sharp pencil? Then you probably prefer Pearl. The balance of hardness makes it an ideal pencil for both drawing and writing.

Blackwing sharpener
In addition to the well-known pencils, Blackwing has also designed a pencil sharpener that you cannot actually see separately from the pencils. With the sharpener you can get very sharp points on your pencils. With sharpener number 1 you sharpen the wood and with number two the graphite. The sharpener is slightly more expensive than regular sharpeners, but remains sharp for a long time due to the spare blades that are supplied with the sharpener.
