Holbein

The Japanese brand Holbein is known for their professional quality materials. At Splendith you will find the Holbein coloring pencils, Holbein Artists’ Watercolor, Holbein Acryla Gouache and Holbein Artists’ Gouache.

Holbein coloring pencils contain a mix of pigments, wax, oil and fats. This unique composition creates coloring pencils with unique characteristics. The mixture for the round core is dried and then put in the pencil. A Holbein coloring pencil is officially called a soft oil pencil. The color of the pencils spreads easily, because the center of the pencil is soft. Holbein pencils are great for coloring large surfaces or small details. The pencils are very lightfast. The high-quality pigments do not fade quickly when exposed to light. The core of a Holbein pencil is quite thick (3.8 mm) and the complete pencil has a diameter of 7.8 mm. You can buy the pencils separately or in different sets.

Holbein Artists’ Watercolor was introduced around 1920 and is currently available in 108 highly concentrated colors. The paint is a European style watercolor and is finer than any other watercolor. They are produced without ox-dall, animal products or other ‘distribution’ materials. This gives you more control over the distribution of the pigments. It also improves manageability and delivers super intense, pure colors. The Holbein Artists’ Watercolor has the highest standard.

Holbein Acryla Gouache is our favorite acrylic paint. The basis of this paint is acrylic, but it is more opaque than acrylic paint. The paint moves and behaves the same as gouache, but is waterproof when dry. You can reactivate regular gouache, but not Acryla gouache. Try using the paint straight from the tube. You can keep the paint wet longer by putting it on a keep wet palette or by spraying some water on it every now and then. Do you want to combine Acryla with regular gouache? Then use Acryla for the bottom layer, so that the colors do not overlap because the bottom layer is activated. You can also mix Acryla with all other materials that are water soluble.
