What is vellum paper?

The word vellum is used in different ways. When someone in the printing industry talks about vellum paper, they usually mean a non-transparent paper with a rough surface. In the crafting scene, vellum actually always means a transparent paper, which was originally made from calf skin. Don't worry: our modern vellum paper has long since stopped using animal skin!
