During our vacation I painted a journal with our vacation experiences for the first time. Not that we were away much, so I also just painted nice things from home. So nice to use a theme in your sketchbook , that makes the threshold to get started much smaller! If you have been following me for a while you know that I also make a perpetual journal, in the blog I share several nice themes that you can use to fill your sketchbook.

1. Perpetual Journal
My perpetual journal has a sheet for each week of the year. Each sheet shows the date of the week. I prefer to add something to the journal each week. Then I draw what I notice that week from the garden. During the week I usually take pictures of nice items anyway, so I always have something to paint. Now that is for example a chestnut with the skin. You can use this sketchbook for several years, or if you draw a lot it is already full after a week. In my way it is also no problem if you do not paint for a week. And so nice to consciously see the changes of the seasons around you.
2. Travel vs daily life journal
You don't have to be a big fan of traveling for this one. The idea for a travel journal can also be applied very nicely at home. Are you on an adventure? Then it is also very nice to record this! Maybe you paint part of it when you are on the road and a part when you are at home, both are nice! Photos are always useful as a reference to paint later. I am not a big traveler myself, so I paint all the little adventures around our house. Also very nice!
Here are some fun tips to capture your (travel) adventures:
- Draw what you see, things you see, both the little things like your cup of coffee, a tasty snack or those beautiful views.
- Save those tickets: it's fun to stick old entrance tickets and train tickets in your journal as a memory.
- Instead of a complete painting: paint the color palette of the day.
- Sometimes you just want to tell a story in your sketchbook, why not just make a nice frame for it? Or write down that nice anecdote, the quote of the day, another wise lesson or the best moment of the day.
Make your (travel) journal more than just a collection of drawings, but see it as a diary full of adventures and inspiration.
3. Creative prompts
A prompt journal is a fun one if you want to challenge yourself to try new things. Work with a series of creative assignments, so you always have something to draw. A good example of this is Inktober! A month where multiple artists publish a list of prompts, and you can only do them in ink. With a different theme every day that you get to work on. Of course you have the official account of Inktober, where the prompts are already online. There are many other fun prompts that are organized then, we are making a selection and will share them with you soon!
