What do you need to make paper flowers yourself? I'll show you in this new video. And spoiler alert: there will be video tutorials for these paper flowers in the coming weeks!
I like to use these special types of crepe paper:
All these types of paper are available in very fine shades: perfectly suitable for shades in real-looking paper flowers. You can also paint all types of paper yourself, or color it with pastels or the like. The following applies to painting: the paper only becomes soft when it is wet. Once it dries again, use it as before.
Crepe paper 180gram paper
This paper is nice and thick and sturdy and can stretch enormously! Perfect sturdy paper to also make larger flowers. The rolls are 50cm high and you can easily make such large, sturdy leaves with paper, without reinforcement.
60 gram crepe paper
Slightly finer crepe paper, suitable for fine work, or flowers with many leaves.
Gloria doublette paper
This Gloria crepe paper has a different color front and back. The 90 gram paper has little structure, but remains nice and sturdy.
Other tools I love to use:
For tape I use both Parafilm and paper florist's tape. Parafilm is a stretch film. By stretching and pulling it over each other, it remains stuck together. The paper florist's tape releases some glue when you pull it apart.
For glue you can use both hobby glue and a glue gun. I prefer to use a glue gun . The glue is not wet and cools very quickly, and then the leaf is immediately stuck. With hobby glue, the paper gets wet and this can cause the paper to tear more quickly. Hobby glue is very useful for attaching small things. Tacky glue from Aleene's is a very nice glue for this work.
You use flower wire for the stems, I find 1.5 very useful: nice and sturdy. You can also tie several thin iron wires together.
Combination pliers are useful for cutting flower wire. You can also easily bend loops with this.
Finally, books are a great source of inspiration, packed with great tips and techniques. All in English, but very easy to follow with clear step-by-step instructions.
Love,
Judith
