First Impression
Of course I also tested the Daniel Smith Gouache before it came to the shop. First Daniel Smith came with about 20 colors, and now this assortment has been expanded with more than 70 colors. My first impression of the paint was immediately the rich consistency and bright colors.
Rich and beautiful pigments
Daniel Smith's beautiful pigments don't disappoint. The colors are intense and vibrant, even when applied in a thin layer. This makes it easy to achieve deep, saturated colors without using a lot of paint. Compared to other brands I've tried, Daniel Smith really stands out when it comes to color strength.
Perhaps you already work with Daniel Smith's watercolors? The pigments used match each other, which makes these two series very nice to combine.
Excellent Coverage
When I use a gouache, I also want it to be really opaque. This paint covers excellently and evenly, even on dark paper, which is not always the case with other gouaches.
Easy to Mix
Daniel Smith Gouache mixes effortlessly. Whether you want to create subtle colour transitions or discover new shades, the paint mixes easily without becoming 'muddy'. This makes it fun to experiment with colour mixing.
Fine Texture
The texture of this gouache is consistent and creamy. This makes the application smooth and controlled, whether you are filling large areas or doing detailed work. The paint dries evenly, but velvety like a gouache.
Conclusion
Daniel Smith Gouache offers rich, vibrant colours, excellent coverage, easy blendability and a consistent texture. The fact that the brand also values sustainability makes it even better. It is a pity that this gouache is in the top class in terms of price, but as you will also expect from Daniel Smith watercolours: the quality does not disappoint.
At Splendith we have the entire range of Daniel Smith Gouache . So be sure to take a look!
