PERSONAL // Plans for the 2019 picking garden! | PERSONAL // Plans for the 2019 picking garden!

My picking garden in 2018 was a success. I was able to pick a lot of flowers from it and also got a lot of satisfaction from it. The combination of being outside, hands in the soil and picking from your own garden was even more fun than I expected! Now last year I received so many questions about the garden that I thought: in 2019 I will take you through everything I learn in the garden. I am convinced that no matter how small or large your garden is, you can get a lot of pleasure from gardening!

Halfway through last summer I was already making plans for this year's picking garden. Fortunately, spring has finally arrived in the Netherlands and I can almost start sowing the plants. That seemed like a perfect time to start the blog series. During these blogs I will take you along in all my plans. Every step of the way I will tell you how you can get started with it yourself!

What are my plans for 2019?

In 2018 I made strict choices not to sow too many different plants. In 2019, everything can be a lot bigger and more. And a nice place to sit, that would be the perfect addition :).

1. More different plants

Next year I will try more plants than last year. I haven't dared to count the number of different seeds yet, but there are a lot. I haven't added the impulse purchase from last week to my collection yet ;).

When it comes to seeds, I almost always choose annual plants. The advantage of annual plants is that they produce flowers the same year and immediately become quite large. I will come back to the choice of plants in a next blog, because I have much more to say about that ;).

2. A larger surface area

Last year all the plants were actually much too close together, germination had gone so well that I had far too many plants to plant. Obviously I didn't want to just throw them away, but I had only prepared a small piece of soil for the plants.

Also because it went so well, I would like to grow more different types of plants this year, so that I can pick beautiful flowers throughout the summer season. To grow more plants and give them enough space, I of course also needed more space. That space is already there, plowed and all. I haven't measured the piece yet, but it is about 100m2 extra in addition to last year's pieces. I'm so excited!

What I do find important: I want to do gardening as a hobby, so with half an hour a day I should be able to keep it under control. Because I tend to tackle things in a big way, I actually find that the most difficult thing ;).

3. A nice place to sit in the picking garden

A simple bench with a table, there needs to be a nice spot for it. I think it would be wonderful to sit in the middle of the flowers and see how busy the bees are. Or to write blogs with my laptop on the table. Or to place buckets full of flowers on it. In short: I can already see myself there.

In the next blog I will tell you what preparations you need to make for a picking garden! Do you want to stay informed? Then sign up for the newsletter!

I want to know everything about the picking garden! Send me updates!
