Princeton Heritage

The Princeton Heritage brushes are the most well-known Princeton brushes. Over 20 years ago, Princeton released the Heritage 4050 series. This was the first synthetic brush for artists. The Heritage brushes have the same qualities as marten hairs. It’s a brush that’s only suitable for watercolor.

Synthetic brushes as a sustainable alternative

I’m glad Princeton started developing synthetic brushes a long time ago. Thanks to that, they offer a beautiful range with high quality synthetic brushes! Of course, these brushes are better for the animals (I wrote a blog post about this before). Besides that, these brushes are much more sustainable and affordable. Also important: the quality is just as good.

Taklon and Heritage

Howard Kaufman, the founder of Princeton, joined forces with Japanese master brush maker Naohide Takamoto. The basis of a Heritage brush is a mix of gold-colored Taklon hair in different thicknesses. Taklon is a synthetic thread that is used for the Heritage series. Fun fact: in Japan, you have a number of families with master brush makers. Takamoto, for example, is one of the more famous brush masters. Taklon is of course derived from his last name.
